Located within the heart of downtown, the Central Business District is made up of industrial structures, many of which have been converted into housing and retail shops over the past decade. Founded during the nineteenth century, the district served as a salient hub for the nearby Port of New Orleans. In 1984, the neighborhood hosted the historic Louisiana World Exposition, which is believed to have “revitalized” the slow decline that the district previously experienced. Also known as the New Orleans Art District, the neighborhood includes numerous arts institutions, many of which are Prospect.5 exhibition venues.
