Ronald Cyrille’s (aka B. Bird) vision is a boat loaded with the nostalgia of memories, preventing the memory from drifting into oblivion, sheltering storms and shipwrecks, but also the sweetness of happy encounters. Sometimes tossed by the flow of the waves, other times swept away by the violent tides that force him to wander, each of Cyrille’s artworks restore this continuous journey in the hollow of his memory.
A narrative form unites Cyrille’s past with his present, combining melancholy with euphoria, linking resilience with protest, emphasizing not paradox but rather the establishment of balance. Significant events, such as the premature loss of a close family member, swept away by the sea, tearing forever, without hope of healing, a part of his soul. Only through perspective has he learned to live with the absence of a brother, continuing to sail even with a part of himself amputated, and painting frenetically as if to defy time that takes hold of those he loves. In 2021 Cyrille lost all of his work (over 5,000 pieces) in a tragic studio fire. He has since been working to create new paintings, sculptures, court-métrages, and drawings. Cyrille studied visual arts at the Caribbean Arts Campus in Fort-de-France, Martinique.
