P.6 Artist Ruth Owens invites you to revel in the exuberant and healing power of dance and movement while enjoying the energetic sounds of renowned recording artists Water Seed, interspersed with images from her video installations depicting Black Love, Black Joy, Black Dance, and Black Delight.
The Black Delight event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. After the Black Delight party, Ascendance will have their Earth party and will honor P.6 Artist Ruth Owens. About the Artist
Ruth Owens is a figurative painter and video artist from New Orleans, where she is represented by the Ferrara Showman Gallery. Owens’s work preserves and contributes to the Black archive by using personal super-8 film references from the 1960’s in her work.
Ruth Owens graduated in 2018 with an MFA in studio art after leaving her medical practice of 25 years. She recently exhibited a solo show at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, Biloxi, MS; and has been featured in group shows at A.I.R. Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; Monte Vista Projects, Los Angeles, CA; New Orleans African American Museum, LA; among others. Artist residencies include the Joan Mitchell Center, Addison Gallery of American Art, Vermont Studio Center, Studios at MASS MoCA, and the International Studio and Curatorial Program in New York. Owens has work in the permanent collections of the 21c Museums, Ackland Art Museum at UNC-Chapel Hill, Addison Gallery of American Art, Dale Center for the Study of War and Society, Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection, Fidelity Investments Corporate Collection, and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.
